Ravi Shankar & Ali Akbar Khan - Ragas - Double LP released in France in 1973

Here recordings which have been released quite a number of times by different labels with different covers. The same double LP was also published the same year (1973) with a different cover in the US. Originally the recordings were published as two individual LPs. The Jugalbandi LP was orginally released in 1960 in India as EALP 1251 (the very first LP published by The Gramophone Company of India) and in 1964 by Prestige in the US. There was also a widely distributed edition by Transatlantic Records in London from 1969
The second LP - a solo LP by Ali Akbar Khan - was orginally published in India in 1963 as EALP 1274 and in the US by Prestige in 1965.
The inside of the gatefold album only has advertising for other albums from the label. That is why we didn't scan it.

Ravi Shankar - Music from India Series - Vol. 8 - Raga Nata Bhairav & Raga Mishra Piloo - LP published in 1968 in UK

Here we post another beautiful LP by Ravi Shankar, also from the Music from India Series. The recordings sound as if they were recorded in the same recording session as the LP we posted before. This also was, since I bought it in the early 1970s, one of my favourite Ravi Shankar LPs. The Mishra Piloo is such a beautiful and amazing piece of music!

Ravi Shankar - Music from India - Raga Khamaj & Raga Lalit - LP published in 1967 in India and UK

Here one of my favourite Ravi Shankar LPs. It was published first in UK in 1967 as volume 4 of the Music of India Series. Our version was released the same year in India.

Ravi Shankar - Ragas Kameshwari, Gangeshwari & Rangeshwari - LP published in India in 1972

Our colleague from the beautiful blog Flat, Black and Classical: Indian Classical Music on Vinyl and Cassette posted two days ago his copy of the same LP and apparently had to do a lot of work to get a good sound quality. Here my copy, which I bought in the mid 1970s in Southall near London, which sounds, to me, perfect. I had prepared this LP already in July 2013 for posting. As always I did no editing at all.

Ravi Shankar & Ali Akbar Khan - Duets - LP published in UK in 1965

This is one of the very first LPs I bought around 1970. I loved it very much, especially Ali Akbar Khan's playing, and played it many many hundreds of times. This is the UK edition. It was published the same year also in India as EASD 1296.

CD 1:
Annapurna Devi:
1. Raga Kaunsi Kanada
2. Raga Manjh Khamaj

CD 2:
Annapurna Devi & Ravi Shankar:

"She has not recorded any music albums. But some of her performances (notably, 1. Raga Kaushi Kanara and Raga Majh Khamaj, Surbahar recital; and 2. Raga Yaman duet Surbahar recital with Ravi Shankar) that have been secretly taped from her earlier (1950s) concerts, are non-commercially available among a percentage of music lovers in India."

For more information see:

Many thanks to KF who made a nice double CD out of these recordings.
