Roshan Ara Begum (1917-1982) & Gandhari (Gangoobai) Hangal (1913-2009) - Classic Gold - Cassette released in India in 1998



Here two other great female voices of the Kirana Gharana. By both we had posted already recordings before. On the cover are mentioned only 6 tracks for side 1 and 8 tracks for side 2. But there are 8 tracks on side 1 too. Here the correct track list for side 1 taken from a CD released in 2009:


In the future we will post more volumes from the "Classic Gold" series.

Roshan Ara Begum (1917-1982) - Roshan Ara Begum Sings - LP published in 1961 in Pakistan and also in India


Here the second of the two LPs by the great singer of the Kirana Gharana published in the beginning of the 1960s. The first one we posted in July 2012. See here.
We also had posted in March 2015 four cassettes by her published in 1978. See here.

This LP we bought in the 1970s with a generic cover (see below) in a Pakistani record shop in Southall, near London. Recently we bought another copy from India with the original cover. We offer here the music from the LP we bought in the 1970s (Pakistani pressing) and the covers of the recently bought LP (Indian pressing).

Roshan Ara Begum (1917-1982) - A Tribute to Ustad Abdul Karim Khan - LP published around 1960 in Pakistan


Roshan Ara Begum, the other great lady of Kirana Gharana, was the daughter of Abdul Haqq Khan, brother of Abdul Karim Khan. She studied with her uncle Abdul Karim Khan.

Here we present her first LP. Originally published in Pakistan, the LP itself in my possession is made in Pakistan, but the cover seams to be from the Indian edition.
