Zahid Khan Faridi Desai Resume

Zahid Khan, son of Miya Ustad Shamshuddin Faridi Desai
His father Miya shamshuddin staff artist with All India Radio, until his retirement in 1997.
He belongs to Indore Binkar family and is the last successor as well the master of the unique art of Gauhar bani style Khayal and Dhrupad, which is believed to have been developed by Swami Gopal Nayak, in 1250 AD.

The style has been variously described as plaintive and sorrowful, slow medium fast and heavy with an elephantine gait, and specializing in music of the Shantras [sentiment of peace tranquility].
Even at present he remains the living legend of his art. The brief history of Indore Family tradition is an important source of this art and we are mentioning the name of those masters who with their skills brought this unique art to the world.

The most orthodox interpreters and founder of the indore family which claims its Genesis to the great Binkar- Ustad Miya Bande Ali Khan. This Maestro is credited to have revitalized which is known as the Khand- meru or meru khand, technique of raag exploration, based on the planned permutation combinations of notes.

Ustad Miya Bande Ali Khan is accepted as a master of the masters and revolutionary Binkar. He has been graced by the most powerful sufi saint Khawaja Garieb Nawaz Moiennudin Chisti[Reh ] Who had told him that he will win the hearts of mankind with his art of Bin.

It is well known fact that he had performed at least 28 miracles through his art of Bin , he is known as the foundation of the art of Gaiki and Bin.
The brith of Gai ki ang sitar came from the indore family and it was the dedication and the masterful skills of Miya Bande Ali Khan who brought it to the world.

Zahid Khan is the only current artist who has learned the art of Bin through the tradition of the Indore family He is an exponent of the Bin , which is an instrument of at least 5000 years of age. The art of Bin is deeply connected to spiritual knowledge as it was the instrument of Lord Shiva and to master it needs to be spiritually awakeness. In order to achieve this inner knowledge Zahid Khan has been the folloewer of Qari Sibte Rasool Qadri[Reh] a well known Sufi saint , who spend his life to teach mankind the power and beauty of love and peace.

Zahid Khans Great grand father Abdurr Rehman Khan studied Bin with Wahid Khan of indore, who had learned the art of Bin from the legendary 18th century Master Miya Bande Ali Khan, in the same time and as did master Murad Khan. Zahid Khans Grand father Mohammad Khan Faridi learned the art of Bin from his father Abdurr Rehman Khan and passed it on to his son Miya ustad Shamshuddin faridi Desai.

Zahid Khan developed interest in learning the art of play bin since his childhood, with strong and powerful guidance from his father Ustad Shamshuddin faridi. Under his guidance his hard work and complete devotion for learning the art of playing Bin, made him an illustrious musician at very tender age of 28. Hence he has become an expert in play the Sitar and Bin.

Indore family have given well renowned musical maestros e.g. Ustad Munnwar Ali Khan, Ustad Muraad Khan, Ustad Waheed Khan, Ustad Latif Khan, Ustad Majid Khan, Ustad Ghumkadar Khan, Hamid Khan, Ustad Zafar Khan, Ustad Mohammad Husain Khan, Ustad Abid Husain Khan, Ustad Abdurr Rehman Khan, Ustad Mohmmad Khan Faridi, Ustad Shamshuddin Faridi Desai
